Our team is full of animal lovers. They make it a goal to treat each patient like their own. They give each patient plenty of love and attention. They are prepared to discuss preventative medicine so that every pet can stay as healthy as possible. They will also do everything that they can to make a sick pet feel better as soon as possible.

Dr Sandra Leyendecker

Dr. Kassandra Villafranca

Veterinarian

Dr. Kassandra Villafranca is a Laredo, Texas native. After completing a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Texas A&M International University. She attended St. George’s University in Grenada for veterinary school and completed her clinical training at Louisiana State University. After vet school, she started her career at a Tropicana Animal Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada. Her professional interests lie primarily in internal medicine, soft tissue surgery and emergency/urgent care but enjoys all aspects of veterinary
medicine.

Dr. Villafranca is bilingual in Spanish and English. Outside of the clinic, she enjoys spending time with her two beloved cats (Marty and Espy) and two German Shorthaired Pointers (Sky and Marshall), hiking, going on runs, and baking. She is always looking forward to helping people and their pets lead happier, healthier lives.

Dr Sandra Leyendecker

Dr. Alvelo Maurosa

Veterinarian

Dr. Cristina M. Alvelo Maurosa joined the Critter Care Veterinary Clinic team in July 2025. Originally from Puerto Rico, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from Purdue University in 2009 and completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at Universidad Austral de Chile in 2017. Her journey has included externships in anesthesia and surgery, work as a surgical technician, and time in general practice in Michigan. Her diverse background brings a wide range of experience to the clinic, with a special interest in radiology. When not caring for pets, Dr. Alvelo Maurosa enjoys traveling, relaxing at the beach, and catching up on sleep. She shares her home with two cats—Seyba, her loyal travel companion from Puerto Rico, and Lince, a mischievous Michigan stray who now rules the house on his own terms.

Dr. Alex Brenk

Relief Veterinarian

Dr. Alex Brenk was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She lived in Oklahoma and Alaska but has been in Texas since high school. She received her undergraduate degrees in psychology and biology from Texas A&M University where she worked in a research lab studying addiction. She went on to attend veterinary school at Texas A&M University and graduated in 2016. Dr. Brenk begins her veterinary career at Claws & Paws Veterinary Hospital®. Dr. Brenk has completed a number of externships, internships, and special projects during her education, including Houston SPCA rotations, African Wildlife Conservation and Health Study Abroad, in South Africa, Texas A&M Enrichment Camp, and the San Antonio Zoo. Dr. Brenk joined the Critter Care Veterinary Clinic family in September 2019 and she looks forward to continuing to build long-term relationships with her clients and patients.
